uTorrent and Epic Scale trying to make a buck !!!
Several users of the well-known BitTorrent client uTorrent are complaining about it silently installing a cryptocurrency miner with a recent update. The Epic Scale tool, which slows down host computers, is supposedly being installed without consent.
The company behind the software, Epic Scale, claims that the application can be deleted easily but some users said that it was far more difficult.
The application which brings in revenue through in-app advertising also presents users with “offers” to try out third-party software when installed or updated. BitTorrent Inc.in a statement said that the installation happens only when a user accepts it, but many users argue that it was installed even when they opted-out or declined the software during installation.
It’s strange that one of the most popular torrent client now turns your computer into a mindless device programmed to mine digital currency, such as bitcoin and litecoin, at a great expense to the user.
Cryptocurrency mining burns more than just spare system resources. It not only makes the CPU work harder than it normally would but it also consumes more energy eventually raising users’ electricity bills.
